Old character threads 2 / janick
Avatar
Janick and Korrin take stock of the warehouse, ensuring everyone has the supplies they need to begin taking the fight to South Warren. The communist bastion at the ship is not far from here either, and Lace's team has concealed a truck in the field if more is needed. Using the river to reach the objectives reduces traffic and the number of patrols one would encounter, but it is harder to hide on the water, and South Warren does have a handful of gunboats that patrol its waterway
Avatar
"Janick, comrade, let's make a plan." Korrin takes a drag from a damp, bent cigarette, tossing it away half smoked. "If we're going to use the river, we will need to stay underwater somehow. I don't have anything that can help us with that, so unless you do we'll have to go back to the Bastion. If we don't want to do that, we could try just sneaking in from the streets; it would be easier to get there but we are more likely to be seen. What way stands out to you? If you have a better option, perhaps, by all means share it."
Avatar
Janick thinks long and hard on this, poring over a map "Hmm. The river would be a great way to get where we need to be fast, but you're right, we'll need to be under the water rather than on it. Underground, I know a thousand ways, underwater not so much. Do you think they'd have anything useful at the bastion? Alternatively, could we hit the river downstream of the city and commandeer a passing vessel? We'd need a decent disguise to get past any patrols, though we'd face that problem on the streets too."
Avatar
"I'm worried commandeering a vessel would be more trouble than it's worth. I don't know how to take out people on the boat quietly and without anyone noticing, but if you have a plan I'm all ears. The Bastion might have some underwater gear, but it will involve a bit of effort getting there and back. If we could get some local law enforcement uniforms, our options might expand a bit. Why don't we split up for now; you can scout out the locations we want to hit, see if you can learn anything useful. I'll take my team to try and get some undamaged local uniforms. That sound fair to you?"
Avatar
(you guys have Kayla to consult too, who has probably seen other areas of the city that Janick hasn't , ect)
Avatar
(Your call Jan I've played this game for ages you call some shots)
Avatar
(Sorry - hectic evening!) "The uniforms definitely sound like a plan. Should've thought of that when you rescued me from those civil defense goons. Oh well. Scouting works for me, I'll check out our options for getting into the city as well as seeing what things are like around the fuel dump and coin village. What's our plan for rendezvous once we're prepped?" Once he's done talking to Korrin, Janick will introduce himself to Kayla as well: "Hey. Nice place we've got here right? Sorry to get straight to it, but me and my pal over there might need to sneak into town. The coin district to be precise. I hear you're from South Warren. Any advice?"
Avatar
"Lots of automated security in the area. I'd watch for drones. The ones with the commercials on them. They're watching as much as talking. Once you start shooting, I'd take them out as fast as you can"
Avatar
"I'd say meet back here afterwards. We don't need to do this all in one day, we can regroup and make a final plan of attack. Sound like a plan?"
Avatar
To Kayla: "Good to know, thanks. Always liked the idea of taking a few of them to the scrapheap" To Korrin "Sounds good to me. And thanks for bringing me in on this. It's good to feel like I might end up somewhere other than in front of a firing squad if all this works out." (Just want to get some scale in my head - how big is the city in terms of area, and how far from it are we now?)
Avatar
(150 square kilometers, and it would have tens of millions of inhabitants. You’re at the edge of the city between the western markets)
Avatar
(Ready to go?)
Avatar
(I am, we can set your thing up in yours then since it sounds like we're all splitting up)
Avatar
(Good to go here!)
Avatar
(I know some supplies were brought from the ship fortress korrin stopped at before getting here, if you want a gun, they're available)
Avatar
(I've still got the shotgun I took from the CD guys car (in my starting gear))

Avatar
Janick will say his farewells, change into his work overalls and hang his pick from his hip before stuffing the stolen weapon and armour in his rucksack and shouldering it. He'll leave the warehouse and head towards the southernmost of the two Western markets, intending to gauge the mood of the people while pretending to browse some stalls. He'll then head toward the river and follow the bank towards the centre of the city, keeping an eye on the river traffic as he heads towards the Coin District
Avatar
The news on every television, radio, and those with compads is all the same, detailing the attack on the data hub. South Warren authorities have already ruled it terrorism, though your face and the faces of your comrades is not on the screens. It seems the officers were killed before they had time to file a sufficient report.
8:30 AM
The mood is tense, as the 'uprising' has now come to the city, and isnt something that was troubling just the countryside.
8:30 AM
The river has light traffic on it, mostly trash and light cargo barges, though there are a few people who use long gondola like boats to get where they're going. Although there is no security at the water entrances itself, they are watched from the air and from surface patrol boats on passes
Avatar
Janick makes a mental note of the trash barges as a potential escape route, and the general feeling of the people. He's thinking one or two loud explosions might be all this powderkeg needs... He heads through the river gate into the coin district, on a route taking him past the corporation records building, looking for any obvious ways in, or potential opportunities to simply take out the whole building.
Avatar
The records building is a large skyscraper but it seems to be partially undergoing renovations or remodeling right now. Workers go in and out of the site fairly regualrly, and security is not screening them, as there are far too many to make the process fast.
12:43 PM
Large sheets of blue weather tarping hang down part of the building, from the roof blocking off several floors from outside observation, as the facade and bricks have been pulled away
Avatar
(Janick is wearing his miner's overalls, would they be close enough to the worker's uniforms to pass a quick inspection?)
Avatar
(yeah pretty similar, a lot of the same safety equipment would be used)
Avatar
Janick takes a look at the building and mumbles to himself: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" before sidling up close to a group of workers on their way in and following them in to the construction site, trying to look like he should be there
Avatar
You're not stopped as you enter the lobby of the building, where the workers split up into smaller groups, taking temporary elevators up to the higher floors based on what job they're currently working on. It seems there is some masonry work going on, with workers dressed similarly to yourself
Avatar
Janick will appear to be absentmindedly following the other masonry workers while his eyes cast around for any signs that might indicate where the records room is, or some kind of receptionist that might be able to tell him
Avatar
As the elevator shuts, the car begins winching up to the work area, where a large information terminal showing project completion status, work assignments for the day, break schedules, and other information the workers might need is set up. It also has a WALL OF SHAME, where the workers who have taken more than one bathroom break during their 20 hour shift is displayed and 'demerit' points are constantly being updated- translating to money docked from paychecks
Avatar
Janick steps out of the elevator and heads to the terminal. He's looking to bring up a map of the building, Failing that, he'll look into the day's assignments and see who's working in the records room today. He'll also take a look at the wall of shame to see who the most demerited workers are, muttering to himself as he does so: "Heartless bastards. They'll get what's coming for 'em".
Avatar
There are a few on the job site who are feeling the wrath especially harshly, mostly pipe fitters and electricians from@other details who have longer shifts and are forced to work in more dangerous conditions
Avatar
Janick will remember a couple of names of people who seem to be especially unfairly treated, thinking they could come in handy. He'll then look around for someone who looks like they know the place and ask quickly: "Sorry mate, new on site. Can you point us to the corp records room? Been told to report there. Something about a load bearing wall starting to crack."
Avatar
"Oh you noticed something in there? Alright, I don't see a work order here but part of the room falling away sounds dangerous I guess. Let me call security and let them know someone will be working in there"
9:13 PM
"Wouldnt want them to send you to prison like they do with those worthless debtors, now do we?"
Avatar
Janick responds: "I'm new this week, the system probably hasn't caught up yet." and waits while the guy calls security. He replies to the second comment: "Hah. I dunno, it'd get me away from her indoors for a bit!" *At the mention of prison, he realises that he'll be in a whole heap of trouble if security look in his bag. He looks around for a secluded corner to pop it down. "No use lugging this around everywhere."
Avatar
There is a ping on the coordinator's pad, and something like a paper slip begins printing
8:29 AM
"9th floor, east hallway, security officer is waiting there to unlock it for you, and you'll be able to see what needs to be done. This pass will get the elevator working'
Avatar
"Thanks" Janick heads to the elevator and up to the 9th floor. When he reaches the security officer, he'll chat pleasantly: "Morning. Been told there's a wall needs looking at in here?" before handing over the ticket
Avatar
"So the report says. I took a peak inside and didnt notice anything, but you're the expert. Is there anything I can do to make this go a little faster? corporate isnt happy about a wager skulking around in here"
1:07 PM
"between us though, I don't care. You're keeping things safe, I just dont want the trouble"
Avatar
"I'm sure it's probably nothing. One of the health and safety guys being a busybody most likely. I'll be as quick as I can." Janick will open the door and be about to step through when he pretends to remember something: "Oh, if you could get hold of Terry Smith, the sparkie, that'd help get things done quicker. I'll need an electrician to isolate the room if any work does need doing, and he'll get it done quicker than anyone." Janick will then head through into the room, making sure to leave the door ajar, and take a look around (I'm hoping to drag the most disgruntled electrician from the Wall of Shame into the room with me - and also distract the guard for a few minutes - I just made up a name ) (Janick's looking for a few things: 1 - any way into this room from outside the building. 2 - anything in here that he can rig to either blow up or cause a large fire. 3 - Any way to circumvent the lock on the door, preferably without anyone noticing)
Avatar
(thats perfect, make up the names you need to)
7:15 AM
There is not a readily made way outside, but you do hear the scrape of scaffolding on the other side of the wall. It seems thin, and easy to break through. The lock is mechanical, and fairly simple in the event the keycard reader is disabled. you can see wires and a control box for it from within this room. Presumably, you can also play with the wiring in here for some creative fire starting if the need arises
Avatar
Janick will take a look at the wall he can hear the scaffolding next to. Assuming the guard has gone off to find Terry he'll work fast, unslinging his pick and carefully use it to create a small hole through the wall, only just wide enough to stick a thumb through, but clearly visible from outside. He wants to be able to find this room directly when he comes back. He'll then scrape up and down the wall either side of the hole to make the wall look cracked and lend credence to his story. After that he'll wait around until either Terry joins him or the guard comes back, idly moving stuff around in a pretense of looking for more damage, but actually moving anything that looks flammable over to near the hole.
3:17 AM
(Is it reasonable to assume I have any way of contacting Korrin on my compad at the moment?)
Avatar
(yes, you guys have a comm server at the warehouse your pads all connect to , rather than corp net)
6:58 AM
Terry is out of breath when he comes up the stairs, red faced and dragging his tool kit with him. The guard is not with him for the moment, and he looks at you with a perplexed expression on his face
Avatar
While waiting for Terry, Janick will have sent a message to Korrin. He's still wary of being caught so he'll wrap up his meaning in innuendo: "I found those records you were looking for. I can grab them now if you like, or I can wait until we meet up later?" Once Terry arrives, Janick motions him into the room, and makes an obvious show of having one hand on a very large pickaxe "No time, so I'll make this quick. I hear you've been very unfairly treated by the management here. I represent a certain party interested in making employment in South Warren a bit more... employee led?" Janick will carefully watch Terry's expressions before continuing: "The people who own this building hold something which greatly helps them unfairly treat honest people like you and me. With your help, we can take it from them. Interested?"
Avatar
A reply comes back from Korrin. "Great work comrade. We've got some uniforms and are heading back to base. Grab that info and meet us back there when you're ready."
Avatar
“The people who run this building ruined my life. I’ve been docked pay so many times I’m always losing money coming to work. I’ll do anything I can to help bring them down”
Avatar
"Look around this room. What's the quickest way to seriously ruin everything in here, ideally without people knowing it was you? Any electrics you can trip to cause a fire?"
Avatar
He thinks for a moment. "Strangely enough, the fire suppression system. There's a small hunk of metal over the sensor, formulated to melt quickly. Once it melts, the sprinklers will go off, and that much water will probably do a good job of torching the records contained here'
Avatar
"Ironic. I like it." Janick nods appreciatively then goes back to the cover story, winking at Terry: "So, it looks like we'll need to strip this wall back, replace the joists and then replaster it. Any cables in there we need to look out for?" While they continue the conversation, Janick will look for a way of causing a fire. Ideally one big enough to melt the metal panel but small enough not to be noticed before it does. He's thinking something like a wastepaper basket set on fire and placed on top of a cupboard near to the sensor.
Avatar
Terry begins showing you in the wall where to cut , and as a few wires are exposed he moves in with a pair of snips. As he begins exposing the wires he motions for the records to be pulled from folders and stuffed into a waste bin
6:26 AM
(He’s going to make sparks with the wires and try to ignite the paper)
Avatar
Janick will nod in understanding and begin stuffing some folders into a bin, continuing to make idle chat. He'll catch Terry's eye and add: "I need to head to the depot and pick up some plasterboard before the next bit. I can give you a lift if you wanna come grab those parts you need?"
Avatar
“That’s great thank you. They shut off my mass transit chit after that last break I took unauthorized “
Avatar
(So is the plan to light it and quickly leave? I think in character you two would be working in a probably more coordinated manner than you and i trying to figure out the scene)
8:29 AM
(so it wont happen until you're ready)
Avatar
(Yeah. Light it, head out of the room calmly, grab my bag on the way down. Head out of the front door and just walk nonchalantly away while chaos ensues. The aim would be that we'd have enough time to at least exit the building before the metal plate melts.)
Avatar
The fire begins in earnest, at first smoking just a bit before it solidly catches. Another handful of records are thrown inside, and the security officer is already calling the elevator for you as the door to the room shuts. So far, nothing has smelled or indicated there is a fire happening. "Someone else will probably be here when you get back, so talk to the supervisor again to get up here"
Avatar
"Will do, thanks." Janick will push the button for the ground floor, and when the elevator reaches it, stride purposefully towards where he left his gear, nodding to the security guy there: "need to head out for some supplies. Won't be long. I'll just grab this."
Avatar
The alarms begin going off as you grab your tools, though security begins running inward , toward the source of the alarms
Avatar
(3xp, 5000 credits. you planned this well, i dont see a plausible way for them to connect the dots in time, and we can link up with korrin for stage 2)
Avatar
(Sorry I've been AWOL for a few days, had a poorly baby, but we're all good now) Janick calmly heads out of the building with Terry, feigning disinterest in the alarms. He heads down the street away from the building, explaining to Terry the plan to take out the fuel dump: "...So I'm sure it'll be easy enough to find something there to blow up. I'll drop my comrade a message and tell him we're off to scope the place out." He turns to him seriously for a moment. "You did good back there, but sticking around with me is gonna get dangerous. I'll understand if you wanna walk away now. Otherwise, I can introduce to the others later?" He'll then message Janick: "Got the records. Heading to the dump. There's a cafe just round the corner. Meet you there?"
3:19 AM
(Where exactly did the 5000 credits come from?)
Avatar
(Mission completion )
Avatar
(I always hand out credits for mission completion )

Avatar
The meeting is accepted and you’re away before trouble finds you. Terry is likewise interested in helping as his involvement with the fire is going to be discovered sooner or later.
11:10 PM
The corporations are immaculate record keepers
Avatar
Janick will head to this cafe with Terry, order two bottles of beer, and find a quiet table in a dark corner. He'll make small talk with Terry while waiting for Korrin to arrive, steering the conversation away from any particularly sensitive topics if it looks like anyone might be listening.
Avatar
( @Robert )
Avatar
News of the entire upper reaches of the corporate tower now aflame cross every news surface, followed by alerts of dangerous individuals nearby, though the sketches of both of you on the television are wrong in several important ways
Avatar
Korrin wanders up to where Janick is seated, glancing at a sketch broadcast on the screen of a nearby newsdrone. He smirks. "I don't think it really captures just how handsome I am, do you?" He winks, well aware of how confusing it looks when he only has one visible eye. "So, you ready to go?"
Avatar
"We'll ask them to get our good sides next time!" Janick stands and grins. "Korrin, this is Terry. He helped out a lot on our previous endeavour, and almost certainly doesn't have a job now, so he's willing to pitch in with us."
Avatar
"Not having a job just means you have more time to do important work with us." Korrin smiles. "We've got some uniforms, and I've rigged up a drone to do some observation work too. What did your team learn?"
Avatar
The TV report drones on for another few minutes, before just repeating the same news. It doesnt sound like the authorities have any strong leads, but if things drag out much longer than this, they might start putting the blocks together
Avatar
"Nothing we didn't know already. The people running this place will do anything to help keep the worker down. However, they are terrible at designing sprinkler systems it seems" Janick gestures to the TV as it shows the building ablaze "We should probably put some distance from that. I think we had a dump to go to?"
Avatar
"Sounds like a plan to me. Lead the way, comrade."
Avatar
The trash barges skim the canals and rivers of the city often, almost constantly, it is just a matter of finding one. From outside, the embers of the building burning still light the skyline, and a few fire service vehicles roll by. These firefighters are a private outfit, requiring citizens to pay a membership fee if they would like structure fires put out at their residences or businesses
Avatar
"I think this might be a good time to use these uniforms, Janick. Use our stolen authority to get on a passing trash barge then commandeer it, quickly and quietly. What do you think?"
Avatar
"I like it. Roll right up to the fuel depot like we belong." Janick will take a uniform and duck into a secluded alleyway to change.
Avatar
You're afforded privacy while you get your captured uniforms on, and before long you look no different than the local security corps minus a few tears and some hastily blotted out blood stains
Avatar
They do however look passable, and there is a steam whistle from the canal nearby as one of the barges begins passing
Avatar
Janick will hang around on the tow path and wave at an oncoming barge "Hey there! Mind giving us a lift into town? We missed our barge and the boss'll kill me if I'm late for the evening shift!"
Avatar
One of the sailors in a grubby uniform gives a short wave back. "Ahoy there! can't stop her, but jump aboard if you can, we'll get ya as close as the pilot will let us get!"
Avatar
Janick will steady himself on the shore, and then jump aboard with the others once the boat is as close as it's going to get. Once aboard, he'll do a quick headcount of the crew
Avatar
There are four crewmen here, consisting of the pilot, two deck hands, and a signalman for communicating with shore
Avatar
Korrin jumps over after Janick, then meanders towards the pilot. "We appreciate the help." He looks back at Janick, ready to try and knock these men out if it looks like his comrade is still game.
Avatar
(the crew def has no idea you're not who you're pretending to be)
11:39 AM
(so you'd get surprise if you do decide to act)
Avatar
Janick catches Korrin's eye, nods slightly and ambles over towards the signalman. "Busy day?"
Avatar
"Always. We are good at making two things in this city, money for people who think theyre better than us, and garbage. "
9:33 AM
"We make lots of both"
Avatar
Korrin nods as he quietly reaches behind him for his stun baton. "Ain't that the truth," he says, before lunging forward and stunning the pilot.
Avatar
His mouth gapes like a fish suddenly finding itself on land. he has seconds to silently process his incomprehension at events before crumpling over next to the steering controls
Avatar
"You're telling me!" As soon as he sees Korrin move, Janick grabs the man from behind. With one hand around his shoulders and the other over his mouth and nose he attempts to choke the poor guy until he blacks out
Avatar
The man struggles in your grip, and you're joined by other squad members who help weigh him down. He quickly blacks out, snoozing heavily as air is restored
7:13 AM
The barge is now firmly under CBSS control, and the radio team gets a signal that Lace is moving toward the countryside to secure a land route, so soldiers and equipment can begin making their way in. The news is playing on the barge radio, and it seems the Chairman thinks the time is right to begin the overt takeover, under the guise of peacekeeping. Soldiers are expected to make their way here within days
Avatar
"Let's make it easy for them, shall we? Take the wheel, I've got no idea how to pilot this thing. I'll keep lookout."
Avatar
"Sounds good to me." Janick grabs the wheel and pilots the barge in the direction of the fuel dump, maintaining a steady speed and course so as to appear like nothing is wrong.
Avatar
There is a fifteen minute steam from here to the dump, and there is a knock on the pilot house as two of yoursquad mates are there. "We should do something about the bodies on the deck. Someone's going to notice. Do we dump them over? "
Avatar
"Put a lifejacket on them and place them into the river once we pass under a bridge."
Avatar
They nod, and you hear them on the deck fifling though storage boxes and emergency tools below deck. Four splashes hit the water once you cross under a large traffic bridge ahead, and the dump is just a few minutes away. Any last moment preparations would need to be made now before you come into view of any security there
Avatar
"Alright comrade, what's the plan?" Korrin counts through the metal slugs for his mag pistol, loading them slowly into a clip, his team making similar preparations with their own pistols and axes. "This is your world, you make the call."
Avatar
Janick likewise checks the load in his shotgun and the batteries in his axe. "We want to take the place out, or at least make that fuel in there unusable for any kind of military response. Ideally I'd like to do it without any unnecessary harm to the workers in there, they're just as much victims as we were back at the mine. Hell, they're probably on our side!" He thinks a while, before adding: "Any way we can ruin the fuel without risking the lives of the ordinary folk around here would be great in my book. Maybe flood the place, or set it on fire and raise the alarm on our way out?"
Avatar
"Setting it on fire sounds simple and effective. I'm with you on not harming the workers, but if security gets in the way then we will do what we have to. That reminds me..." Korrin pulls a drone out from a satchel, a local delivery drone with some unsubtle modifications. Holding his compad, he takes a cord from his pocket and connects the two, programming the drone, before unplugging it as it rises up and begins to hover. "I can scout out the dump with this little gadget I liberated earlier. It might help to get some eyes on the place from above. I can even program it to just hover up there keeping an eye out on it's own so it can ping us if someone's approaching us. The wonders of modern technology never cease, comrade!" (edited)
10:14 AM
(If Janick is down I want to manually take it up and check the place out before we go in for now)
Avatar
Janick will nod appreciatively "Nice. Having an idea what's in there before we climb the wall would be great".
Avatar
Korrin grins, looking forward to trying out a new toy. Controlled by compad, the drone rises up, heading towards the dump ahead of the barge.
Avatar
(Alright so we're looking for a way in, and a possible way to ruin the supplies here without killing anyone who doesn't deserve it)
11:31 AM
The barge would be parking at one of several moorings where fuel tankers would be unloaded. You're clearly not carrying the right cargo for the docking umbilical to connect to anything. There is a maintaining shaft set deeper inside the set of locks you'll be sailing into, where the trash would normally be dumped onto something like this. The incline inside is somewhat steep, as it drains from above. The dockyards also would represent a way in, if you remain undetected by the guards surely scattered throughout
11:31 AM
11:32 AM
(would look sometihng like this, but in the river)
11:32 AM
(so we have a couple breakwaters to keep people away, and actual docking area, a cargo assembly area and some side docks where boats doing other functions they need can park and do their business like food resupply or trash collection)
Avatar
(Im thinking maintaining shift, Janick, any ideas?)
Avatar
(I agree. Is it a covered shaft, or more of a chute type thing?)
Avatar
(the door would be hinged on one side to open when something falls on it, but its not locked or sealed)
Avatar
(So you could also open it from below if you could get a line on it or otherwise get up to it, which climbing the trash could also allow)
Avatar
(I knew I'd regret not buying a grappling hook
Avatar
(if you need other clarifying information I'm happy to provide it, I know that was a lot)
Avatar
"looks like opening it from this end might be tricky. I've got some rope, a climbing harness and a pickaxe. Maybe we could jury rig something up to pull it open with?"
Avatar
(That would work)
6:58 AM
(There’s enough ropes and anchors there to make a rudimentary grappling hook )
Avatar
"Sounds good to me. Let's ride this thing up to the dump and find that shaft."
Avatar
The barge approaches the drop shaft, and your uniforms only attract cursory attention from the various guards and overwatching forces.
9:55 AM
It slows, preparing for more trash to likewise begin the offloading process
Avatar
Korrin looks out for some kind of maintainence hatch, not wanting to immerse himself in garbage just yet.
Avatar
Janick gets his gear ready in advance of the barge floating under the hatch, and tenses himself to throw his pick like a grapnel when the time is right
Avatar
There is a bang as the makeshift grapple hits the shaft cover. Security doesnt seem to pay any special mind as the hatch banging open to dump trash is normal. The pick head crunches deep in the metal, creating a good anchor point to begin the climb
Avatar
"I'll take the lead, follow us up." Korrin begins pulling himself up the rope, his team following.
Avatar
The rope holds firm, and the throw was clean, you're able to reach upwards from the axe to a more shallow angled part of the shaft, that leads to another hatch above. There is some loose talking beyond it, and the light below the threshold shifts a bit as people walk by
Avatar
Korrin waits, hoping for a moment to exit the shaft when there's no one there to see. I wonder if these uniforms will work in here?
Avatar
Emerging into a transit corridor there is a office complex to the left, and an engineering sector to the right. You seem to be on a large transit area between the two districts that is heavily trafficked during normal work hours, but the city unrest has kept most people locked down
Avatar
"I don't know the first thing about offices. Let's head to engineering?"
Avatar
Janick retrieves his pick from the hatch before following Korrin. "Me neither. Engineering sounds like the most likely place to find something that'll blow up too"
Avatar
"I'll take point, you keep an eye out for anything that looks like it can go boom"
Avatar
The double doors going into engineering are open but they are shut at the moment, as no one has passed through them. There is a window on each side and it looks like the hallway behind them is empty. Something else explodes in the city nearby
Avatar
Korrin, hand on his pistol in a coat pocket, pushes through the doors, alert for any movement, leaving the identification of opportunities to Janick.
Avatar
Janick smiles at the sound of the distant explosion, putting his pick back in his belt and scanning the room with his eyes for anything he could use to cause mischief
Avatar
There is a laminated sign on the door way that has the pump room to the right of this engineering branch, and distribution center and filtration to the left. There is more activity in each of those areas, you can hear voices and chugging machinery
Avatar
Janick nods to the sign. "Pump room? I reckon we could make some mischief in there. What do you think?"
Avatar
"Sounds like a plan, comrade."
Avatar
Two security troopers and a dozen techs are in the pump room, watching the progress of refined fuel being distributed into trucks, barges, holding tanks, and other necessary places around the city. Some of them are working to get lines shut off in areas where the violence is beginning to increase
Avatar
Korrin steps forward, raising his pistol and shooting at one of the troopers. He looks to his and Janicks soldiers. "Leave the techs!"
6:36 AM
(Do we have our crews with us here I am unsure)
Avatar
(Yeah you do
6:45 AM
(We have a surprise round )
Avatar
(Korrin 11/12, Squad CRIT/14 15/14 15/5 solely at the troopers)
Avatar
Korrin's shot misses, embedding itself into a control terminal. both of the soldiers are hit, one of them killed outright, while the other is wounded but keeps his footing. He reaches for a radio, trying to pull the handset off his dead comrade
9:28 AM

"Shit, we're on then?!" Janick steps to the remaining soldier, unslinging his pick and crashing it upwards towards the soldier as he bends to grab his comrade's radio (Janick Att7, Dam 12, 5shock vs AC15)

The pick smashes through the poorly made armor plating, essentially stapling the poor security trooper to the deck

Lowering his pistol, but keeping it ready, Korrin looks at the techs watching on, his face serious. "I don't want to harm any of you, so stand down!"
Avatar
The techs have done little aside from piss their pants, in a couple cases, so far. They instinctively move away from the machines and try not to do anything that would get them a new hole for these kinds of bodily functions to use
Avatar
"Get out of here, and go to your loved ones. This city is going to be a dangerous place for a few days. Take them somewhere safe and stay there until the shooting stops. Go!"
Avatar
The techs begin filing out, before you hear someone shout in the hallway there is a burst of gunfire, and you hear several bodies hit the floor
8:57 PM
(it would be from out of sight of the doorway leading into the room)
Avatar
"Fuck! Janick, focus on knocking this machinery out, we'll cover you. Squad, find some cover out there and take whoever's out there down." Korrin raises his pistol again and bursts through the doorway.
Avatar
in the hallway, a simulacrum of machine and man, bedecked in the orange and blue of South Warren stomps down the hallway, his heavy machine gun cooling, and the bodies of the techs riddled with dozens of holes likewise smoking, pools of blood beginning to expand under them all. It is 30m aawy at the end of the hall

"It's never easy, is it?" Korrin grimaces as he slides behind the cover of a nearby doorway. "Take this fucker down!"

The shots deflect off the heavy armor of the gunner, and he pulls a rip cord on the side of the gun, and it belches a cloud of smoke. (17/13) the heavy machine gun fires a stream of rounds down the tunnel at one of the squad members
Avatar
Roberts goes down as the rounds tear into her armour, a spray of red mist coating nearby surfaces as she collapses, yelling in pain. Korrin forces himself to stay focused on the enemy heavy as the screams of his comrade ring loud in his ears. He barks out to the other team. "Janick! Work fast and give us some backup!" Without waiting for a response he launches another metal spike from his magpistol at the oncoming enemy, trusting his squad to keep it together. (20/12 20/7 from the gang, 24/11 from Kozza)

Janick sees trooper Roberts collapse back in front of the double doors leading into the workroom, her armor punctured in a dozen places, and a quick spreading pool of red building under her. The pump machinery and control stations in this room show everything is working normally, though fuel has been cut off to areas of the city that are currently going unrest, or are aflame
Avatar
(sorry for the delay) Janick was searching around for some kind of control to reverse fuel flow or something, when he sees Roberts' body hit the deck. At that point, logic goes out the window and he works fast. First he switches everything to on (especially the pumps pushing fuel towards the areas of the city that are on fire), then he finds the biggest looking pump in the room, stands back from it, and fires two quick shotgun blasts into the machinery, hoping to either trip the system out or cause enough damage to start a fire. Without looking back, he rushes to the double doors to rejoin the fight
Avatar
Janick is not in the room to see the results of his work beginning to come to fruition, but several alarms around the station begin to sound, and sprinklers turn on, in response to a fire that must have started elsewhere. Lights flicker as the gunbattle continues, the pool of blood under roberts begins to float, drifting away in long smears of gossamer red. the heavy has taken several hits, though his cybernetics have fared worse than his flesh, and he remains standing. He lowers his cannon again, and fires down the hallway, discharging several links of his belt

Korrin launches another metal spike at the enemy heavy, trying to down them before another one of his squad is hurt. His squad follows suit, Yuri bellowing loudly in rage. (Korrin: 26/10 Squad: 16/12)
Avatar
The arm supporting the heavy machine gun breaks off under the mag fire, the metal spike sinking deep into the thigh of the man/machine after passing through its arm. The gun wobbles, as it tries to correct and keep it level. ( @Umbungo Janick up) (edited)

At the news of the larger city surrender, the heavy throws down his gun, and rests against the wall of the chamber, heavily wounded, and breathing heavily.
Avatar
Korrin nods at Yuri, and the large man goes to secure their defeated opponent. Korrin rushes over to Roberts, letting his concern for his comrade finally come through. "Stay with me June! Someone get the medkit!"
Avatar
June is gone a few seconds later, slain by the body shredding force of a heavy weapon, there is nothing even a lzaraus patch could do for her
Avatar
Korrin punches the wall hard, June's blood on his hands. He exhales slowly, his breath a shining mist in the frigid air. "We leave once Yuri's done. Gotta be there when the troops get here." He stands, his usual half smirk missing, and prepares to leave.
